Department of Health Planning, Research & Statistics (DHPRS)
The Department of Health Planning, Research and Statistics (DHPRS) serves as the strategic hub for evidence-based decision-making within the Ministry. We are responsible for comprehensive health sector planning, annual budgeting, and the rigorous monitoring and evaluation of all health activities across Sokoto State. By translating raw health data into actionable insights, we provide the critical information required to formulate policies that improve service delivery and health outcomes for our citizens.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Budgeting: Preparing the annual and rolling health sector budgets, alongside comprehensive departmental work plans.
- Data Management & Statistics: Generating, analyzing, and archiving vital health statistics to track state-wide health operations and demographic trends.
- Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E): Conducting performance monitoring and compiling quarterly progress reports for all Ministry projects.
- Research & Policy Development: Driving health research initiatives and providing the framework for evidence-based policy formulation.
- Resource Coordination: Coordinating health care financing and managing relationships with development partners and private sector collaborators.
Operational Units
Health Management Information System (HMIS) & ICT
Manages the centralized collection, analysis, and digital infrastructure of state-wide health data. This unit ensures high-quality data gathering by utilizing advanced digital collection and Quality Assurance (QA) platforms, such as ODK Central and KoboToolbox, for dynamic survey monitoring and rigorous data cleaning.
Health Care Financing & BHCPF
Oversees the financial architecture of health services, including the strategic management of the Basic Health Care Provision Funds (BHCPF) to ensure sustainable and equitable resource distribution.
Partners Coordination & PPP
Acts as the liaison for external collaborations, managing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework and aligning the efforts of international development partners with the State’s health objectives.
Health Research Ethics & HRH
Regulates all medical and public health research to ensure strict ethical compliance , while also managing strategic data regarding Human Resources for Health (HRH).
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit
Dedicated to formulating health responses, tracking data, and providing integrated support frameworks for victims of gender-based violence.
