Department of Medical Services

The Department of Medical Services is dedicated to ensuring the highest standard of clinical care and medical governance across Sokoto State. We are responsible for formulating clinical policies, regulating medical practice, and supervising the delivery of secondary and tertiary healthcare services. Our mandate is to ensure that all state-owned hospitals and specialized medical centers operate efficiently, adhere to national clinical guidelines, and provide patient-centered care that meets the evolving health needs of our citizens.

Operational Units

Clinical Services & Quality Assurance

This unit conducts regular clinical audits, investigates morbidity and mortality reports, and enforces strict adherence to national and state medical treatment guidelines to guarantee patient safety.

Works in tandem with the Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB) to assess clinical equipment needs, manage hospital infrastructure upgrades, and monitor the efficiency of secondary healthcare delivery.

Manages the deployment and supervision of House Officers, Medical Interns, and Resident Doctors, ensuring that the State’s health facilities serve as robust centers of medical learning and excellence.

Serves as the regulatory arm responsible for inspecting, licensing, and monitoring private hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers to ensure they meet the State’s stringent safety and quality standards.

A specialized sub-division tasked with expanding access to oral healthcare and coordinating dental services and surgical interventions across designated state facilities.
