The Department of Finance and Supply is the financial custodian of the Sokoto State Ministry of Health. We are responsible for the strategic management of the Ministry’s financial resources, ensuring that all funds are utilized transparently, efficiently, and in strict compliance with the State’s financial regulations. By maintaining rigorous accounting standards and an optimized procurement system, we ensure that the financial backing is always in place to support life-saving public health interventions and healthcare delivery across the State.
Core Responsibilities
- Financial Management: Processing all financial transactions, maintaining statutory accounting records, and preparing the Ministry's financial statements.
- Budget Execution: Working closely with the DHPRS to ensure that the approved annual health budget is implemented efficiently and transparently.
- Procurement & Contracting: Managing the procurement of non-medical supplies, office equipment, and overseeing Ministry contracts in line with the State Public Procurement laws.
- Asset & Inventory Management: Safeguarding government assets, managing the Ministry's central stores, and maintaining an accurate inventory of capital items.
- Payroll & Revenue Administration: Managing staff salary logistics, coordinating tax deductions, and overseeing any internally generated revenue (IGR) within the Ministry's direct purview.

This unit handles the day-to-day accounting operations, including the preparation of payment vouchers, management of the cash office, bank reconciliations, and the disbursement of approved funds to various departments and parastatals.

Central Stores & Logistics
Operates the Ministry’s central administrative storage facilities. This unit tracks the receipt, warehousing, and systematic issuing of office supplies, stationary, and non-clinical equipment to various departments.
Internal Audit & Compliance
Acting as the primary internal control mechanism, this unit conducts pre-payment and post-payment audits to prevent financial leakages, ensure strict budgetary discipline, and enforce compliance with public service financial rules.
