SOKOTO STATE PARTICIPATES IN CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON HEALTH SECTOR PRIORITIES

As part of ongoing efforts to accelerate progress in maternal, newborn, child, adolescent, and reproductive health outcomes, Sokoto State participated in a high-level consultative meeting convened to strengthen collaboration on key health sector priorities.
Sokoto State was selected as one of seven priority states—alongside Bauchi, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Gombe, Jigawa, and Kogi—for deeper engagement and strategic partnership with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF).

The consultative meeting provided a platform for participating states, national health institutions, and development partners to review progress on priority health interventions, discuss implementation challenges, and identify opportunities for enhanced technical and strategic support aimed at improving health outcomes.

The Sokoto State delegation comprised:

  1. The Honourable Commissioner for Health;
  2. The Executive Secretary, Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SSPHCDA); and
  3. The State SWAp Desk Officer.

The meeting represents a significant step towards strengthening coordination, improving service delivery, and accelerating the implementation of key health sector priorities. Discussions focused on:

a) Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII);
b) Community-Based Health Workforce (CBHW) deployment;
c) Primary Health Care (PHC) digitization;
d) Maternal and family planning commodity security; and
e) Project HOPE implementation.

Key Highlights:
Participants reviewed the current status of health sector priorities, identified implementation challenges and existing gaps, explored opportunities for improved coordination and partner support, and agreed on practical actions to accelerate progress toward achieving better maternal, newborn, and reproductive health outcomes across the priority states.

The meeting which took place at FRESER SUITES, HOTEL Abuja, reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Health, participating states, and development partners to work collaboratively towards achieving sustainable improvements in health service delivery and advancing the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
