
SOKOTO HEALTH COMMISSIONER INSPECTS ONGOING HOSPITAL PROJECTS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO QUALITY HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Sokoto State, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, has conducted a supervisory visit to the ongoing construction of the Wamakko General Hospital and the rehabilitation project at Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto, as part of the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring quality and timely execution of health infrastructure projects across the state.
During the inspection at Wamakko General Hospital, the Honourable Commissioner assessed the level of work and made recommendations for necessary adjustments to ensure the project meets global standards. He expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work being carried out and commended the contractor for the progress recorded.
Responding, the Project Engineer, Engr. Kabiru Yusuf, appreciated the Commissioner’s observations and assured him that all recommendations would be fully implemented in accordance with the approved Bill of Quantities and project design.
Also speaking, the Project Contractor, Alhaji Umar Abubakar, thanked the Commissioner for the supervisory visit and reaffirmed his commitment to completing the project in line with approved specifications, engineering standards, and best practices.
The supervisory visit also took the Commissioner to Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, where he was received by the Hospital Secretary, Alhaji Aliyu Magaji, and Dr Muktar Gada, on behalf of the Chief Medical Director.
The Commissioner inspected the ongoing rehabilitation of key service units, including the Antenatal Care (ANC), Family Planning, Outpatient Department (OPD), and Immunization sections.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and disclosed that the rehabilitation programme would be extended to the labour room and medical wards to further improve service delivery.
Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar used the opportunity to remind members of the public that Caesarean Section (CS) services remain completely free of charge in hospital. in line with the health sector reforms of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, FCNA, aimed at providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to all citizens.
The Honourable Commissioner also directed the initiation of a joint meeting between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Works to harmonize and expedite the completion of the ongoing projects.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the inspection by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi, mni, the Managing Director, Health Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Abubakar Attahiru, and Directors of the Ministry.
The Sokoto State Ministry of Health remains committed to strengthening the state’s healthcare system through strategic investments in infrastructure, quality service delivery, and effective project supervision for the benefit of all residents.
