SOKOTO HEALTH COMMISSIONER URGES WOMEN TO CHAMPION BIRTH SPACING AWARENESS FOR HEALTHY MOTHERHOOD
he Honourable Commissioner for Health, Sokoto State, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, has called on women groups across the state to intensify awareness campaigns on birth spacing as a vital strategy for improving reproductive health and promoting safe and healthy motherhood.
Dr. Faruk made the call on Monday while receiving members of the Amadun Alu Youth Vanguard Initiative, a women-led organization, during a courtesy visit to his office at the Ministry for Health, Sokoto State.
The Commissioner emphasized that birth spacing remains one of the most effective interventions for reducing maternal and child mortality, improving the health of mothers and children, and strengthening family well-being.
He urged women organizations to complement the government’s efforts by educating communities on the importance of family planning and encouraging the uptake of reproductive health services.
In recognition of his outstanding leadership and remarkable contributions to the health sector, the Amadun Alu Youth Vanguard Initiative presented Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar with an Award of Excellence.
Speaking during the presentation, the leader of the organization, Hajiya Salamatu Aliyu, commended the administration of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, FCNA, for prioritizing the health sector.
She also applauded the Honourable Commissioner for his dedication, commitment, and impressive achievements in advancing healthcare delivery across the state.
Responding, Dr. Faruk expressed appreciation to the organization for the honour bestowed on him and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that will improve the health and well-being of the people of Sokoto State.
He described the award as an encouragement to continue working tirelessly toward achieving quality and accessible healthcare for all.
Those present during the occasion included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Health, Alhaji Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi, mni, and Directors of the Ministry.
