
MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS ADVOCATE ESTABLISHMENT OF DEPARTMENT IN SOKOTO MINISTRY OF HEALTH
The Executive Members of the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association of Nigeria (MLSAN), Sokoto State Civil Service Chapter, have paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Sokoto State, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, in his office.
The visit was led by the State Chairman of the Association, Scientist Muawiyah Abubakar, who said the delegation was at the Commissioner’s office to advocate for the establishment of a dedicated Medical Laboratory Department within the Sokoto State Ministry of Health.
Scientist Muawiyah explained that the initiative was aimed at strengthening the coordination, professionalism and effective delivery of medical laboratory services in the state. He disclosed that the House Committee on Health of the Sokoto State House of Assembly was already working on the legislative procedures towards the creation of an enabling law for the establishment of the department.
He therefore solicited the support of the Honourable Commissioner towards the successful establishment of the proposed Medical Laboratory Department in the Ministry of Health.
Responding, the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the initiative. He assured the association of his support and commitment towards the establishment of the department, noting the importance of strengthening medical laboratory services to the effective delivery of healthcare in the state.
In his vote of thanks, Professor Muhammad Kabir expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for the warm reception accorded the delegation and for his support for the initiative.
Those present during the visit included the Special Adviser to the Governor on SOCHEMA, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alh. Ibrahim Haliru Dingyadi mni; Directors of the Ministry; and executive members of the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association of Nigeria, Sokoto State Civil Service Chapter.
