SOKOTO HEALTH MINISTRY, UNICEF HOLD WORKSHOP TO PREPARE 2027 ANNUAL OPERATIONAL PLAN

The Sokoto State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is conducting a workshop for members of the Top Management Committee (TMC) of the Ministry to develop the 2027 Sokoto State Health Sector Annual Operational Plan (AOP).

The three-day workshop, being held at Kamba Motel, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, is focused on Situation Analysis (SITAN), SWOT analysis, priority mapping, baseline and target setting, as well as costing of planned activities in preparation for the 2027 health sector operational plan.

The workshop is designed to ensure that the 2027 Annual Operational Plan is properly aligned with the organizational goals and objectives of the Sokoto State Ministry of Health and reflects the priority needs of the state’s health sector.

Among the specific objectives of the workshop are to conduct a comprehensive Situation Analysis to understand the current status of the Ministry and its Departments, Agencies and Programmes (DAPs); undertake a SWOT analysis to generate SMART activities that will drive the health sector towards its identified goals; establish realistic baselines and targets for effective monitoring and evaluation; and map the 2027 health sector priorities in line with the Health Sector Strategic Blueprint (HSSB) priorities.

Activities during the
workshop include continuation of costing and priority mapping by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and development partners, followed by baseline and target setting.

The participants are also expected to deliberate and agree on standardized costs for various items to facilitate consistency and effective budgeting in the 2027 operational plan.

The workshop brings together members of the Ministry’s Top Management Committee, representatives of relevant MDAs, development partners and other stakeholders involved in health sector planning and implementation.

At the end of the exercise, the workshop is expected to produce a comprehensive and costed 2027 Annual Operational Plan with clearly defined priorities, baselines, targets and activities, providing a practical framework for coordinated implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health sector interventions in Sokoto State.

The collaboration between the Sokoto State Ministry of Health and UNICEF underscores the importance of evidence-based planning, effective resource allocation and coordinated action in strengthening the state’s health system and improving health outcomes for its people.
